Ce'Nedra is the daughter of Emperor Ran Borune of Tolnedra. She first appears when she bursts in towards the end of a meeting where Belgarath and Polgara urge the Emperor to rid Tolnedra of invading Murgos, a request he refuses. Upon this entrance, Garion feels a sense of recognition despite having no idea how their lives would become forever entwined in the near future. She follows the group in disguise and is discovered later in the Wood of the Dryads. She asks the Dryad Queen Xantha for sanctuary on grounds of common ancestry, and Xantha grants it, though Ce'Nedra later leaves with the group. Later, the party is detained by Tolnedran legionnaires under Grand Duke Kador of Tol Vordue. During this confrontation, Asharak demands Polgara and Garion, while Kador demands Ce'Nedra be handed over to secure his claim on the imperial throne. Ce'Nedra reveals her identity and commands the legionnaires to arrest Kador, at which point they turn against him; Garion's act of sorcery occurs later in the confrontation with Asharak. Ce'Nedra commands the legionnaires to arrest Kador and take him to the garrison at Tol Borune.

In Their Own Story

The tension broke when Grand Duke Kador demanded the handover of the disguised princess. Asharak, whose name was revealed to be the same person as Chamdar and the green-cloaked spy, cared nothing for Ce'Nedra's fate, focusing only on capturing Garion and Polgara. Polgara remained powerless because Asharak had his hand grasped on Garion's heart, threatening to crush it with sorcery. However, when Asharak slapped Polgara, Garion struck back, speaking the word "burn" as flames engulfed the antagonist. Amidst this chaos, Ce'Nedra found her voice. As Kador's men turned against him in shock at the display of magic, they remembered their loyalty to the Emperor. It was Ce'Nedra who commanded them, speaking with the authority of an Imperial Princess of Tolnedra. She ordered them to take Kador prisoner and promised to deliver him to the garrison at Tol Borune. This moment marked her transition from a protected ward to a leader capable of directing seasoned legionnaires in the midst of a magical crisis.
